Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc with minor additives of other strengthening elements. Varying the proportion of these two major alloy elements produces a large number of useful brass alloys with very distinctive properties, which can be of application to wide range of industrial sectors. Brass is resistant to corrosion in many medium except for ammonia and amines, which causes stress corrosion cracking. Among these are aluminum brass, nickel brass and silicon brass.
