ASTM A36M Specification

ASTM A36M is a standard material specification for carbon steel shapes, plates, and bars of structural quality for use in riveted, bolted, or welded construction of bridges and buildings, and for general structural purposes. This specification covers chemical and mechanical and other supplementary requirements for carbon steel bars, plates and other structural shapes. Boltport stocks and uses ASTM A36M bars and plates to manufacture bolts, screws, studs to ASTM A307 Grade A, F568M Class 4.6, ASTM A325/ A325M Type 1, Anchor bolts and rods to ASTM F1554 Grade 36, nuts to ASTM A563/A563M Grade A and rivets to ASTM A502 Grade 1 Specification

Notes :
A : Manganese content of 0.85 - 1.35 % and silicon content of 0.15 - 0.40 % is required for shapes with flange thickness over 75 mm.
B : For each reduction of 0.01 percentage point below the specified carbon maximum, an increase of 0.06 percentage point manganese above the specified maximum will be permitted, up to the maximum of 1.35 %.
C : When Copper steel is specified.

Notes :
A : For wide flange shapes with flange thickness over 75 mm, the 550 MPa maximum tensile strength does not apply and a minimum elongation in 50 mm, of 19 % applies.
B : Yield point 220 MPa for plates over 200 mm in thickness.
C :
Elongation not required to be determined for floor plate.
D : For plates wider than 600 mm, the elongation requirement is reduced two percentage points.
